Sloppy Joes

This is our favorite Sloppy Joe recipe

3/4 to 1 lb. ground beef
1 cup finely chopped onion
1 sweet red pepper, cored seeded and chopped (optional)
1 tsp. olive oil OPTIONAL (add if the hamburger is very lean.)
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. ground hot pepper (cayenne)
1 --32 oz can diced tomatoes, drained (or 2-15 oz. cans.)
2/3 cup ketchup
1 Tbsp. red wine vinegar (I sometimes use balsamic vinegar instead)
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

6 sourdough rolls or hamburger buns split and toasted.

Brown the ground beef thoroughly. Add the onion and sweet pepper and continue to saute another 3 to 5 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients. Stir well. Cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes. Serve.
