Blue Cheese and Onion Burger Topping
The original recipe was a prize winner in Better Homes and Garden's magazine and was submitted by Judy Lynn Henderson from Chattanooga TN. She prepared the onions on the grill. I prepared them in a skillet on the stove. It gave an ordinary hamburger and extraordinary taste. You have to like blue cheese to appreciate this recipe.
Blue Cheese and Onion Burger Topping
2 large Vidalia onions or other sweet onion, cut into 1/4" slices.
1 Tbsp. butter or olive oil
4 oz. blue cheese, crumbled (1 cup)
1/2 of 8-oz package of cream cheese, cut up
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. dried dill weed.
Grilled burgers or grilled steaks
Cut the onion into slices and saute in butter or olive oil over medium heat.
Brown onions slightly to help bring out their sweetness and saute until softened and with gold brown edges.
Place blue cheese, softened cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, pepper and dill weed in a bowl and blend well.
Toss hot onions on top of mixture and blend. Serve on top of grilled burgers or steaks.
